From black to blonde the healthy way.

May 7, 2017

I know many of you naturally dark haired ladies want to go blonde or some other extravagant color. But most times we fear damaging our hair. How can you get amazingly vibrant color and maintain your hair's Integrity?  Well the answer to this question is to go to a professional. Professionals have gone to school to learn how to color hair while ensuring it remains healthy. So while I understand that many of you ladies enjoy box colors, if you really don't want to deal with the guesswork of hair color the best thing for you to do is to go see a professional. But here are some tips to help you before your hair service.

If you plan on getting a major hair color change, a few weeks before your appointment you should definitely invest in some deep conditioning treatments. This will condition your hair so that as you go through your process it shouldn't be as damaging. If you suffer from weak or brittle hair maybe a nice protein treatment three weeks before your color service would be the best option for you. If your worry is moisture you should get a deep conditioning or oil treatment two weeks before your service. By conditioning your hair on a regular basis before your color treatment you should make the job easier for your professional as well as help them to maintain your hair's integrity.

Also before or directly after your hair color appointment make sure you invest in some products that are designed for color treated hair. There are many shampoos,  conditioners, deep conditioners, and styling products on the market that are specified for this type of hair. Some are even designed based on the color that you choose. If you have any questions on what products will work best for your hair make sure to consult your professional on what product line to use. Remember while some drugstore products are OK at times salon products are preferred especially when dealing with color treated hair. If you want your hair to remain vibrant and healthy you can not skip on this step.

Finally, if you want to make a drastic color change on your hair you have to be realistic. Not all hair can go from black to blonde in one day. Sometimes it may take multiple appointments for your hair to get to your desired color. Make sure before your color appointment you and your professional have a consultation so that you both have realistic expectations of what's to come of your hair. Remember your hair Integrity is the most important thing to not only you but your professional. So if your professional suggest a double appointment for you to get to your desired hair color,  please listen to them. Just because others may say they can do it in one day they could damage your hair.
